Quick Information on Construction of Residential
House
Who can apply?
1.
Ethiopian who has
valid Ethiopian passport and permanent resident permit or
foreign national of Ethiopian origin who has got Identity Card
of Ethiopian origin and is above the age of 18 can apply to
build a house in any part of the country securing land from a
municipality of a regional state as per the rules of the state.
2. Interested individuals are advised
to organize themselves and form a cooperative (association) for
housing construction.
3. Individuals who are interested
they can also participate in a bidding process to get the land.
The price of plot of land will be determined through bidding.
How to form an
Association?
► to
facilitate acquisition of land and construction, individuals can
form a Housing association that has a minimum of 10 members.
► members
should be willing to construct the house together with other
members and be ready to contribute financial or other
obligations as required by the Association.
► The
Association should have a constitution endorsed by members of
Executive and Supervisory Committee of the Association. (A
sample of a Constitution can be obtained from our Embassy office
or website)
► each
member should appoint his legal representative in Ethiopia. The
total number of representatives of the association should not be
less than 6. The legal representatives of the members will be
responsible for securing land, construction and/or supervising
the construction.
► Forms
that should be used for the application purposes are available
at the Honorary Consulate Offices of Ethiopia. The Embassy can
also make them available to any interested group upon request.
What are the
Application Procedures?
The chairman or a representative appointed by the Association
should submit the following documents to the Embassy for
authentication.
Documents that
should be presented to the Embassy:
A.
An application letter,
B.
Three certified copies of the Constitution of the House
Construction cooperative signed on each page by the members of
the Executive and Supervisory Committee. Name list of the
founding members with their contract address and signature
should also be attached.
C.
Certified
authorization document of the appointment of individual
representative in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) by each member of the
cooperative.
4. D.
Two original copies of certified Minutes of the Meeting which
indicate that the founding members:

agreed on the
constitution of the House Construction cooperative,
-
decided on the
type of logo or design of the seal of the cooperative,
-
selected members
of the executive and supervisory committee and
-
name list of
authorized representatives of the members in Addis Ababa.

Applicants should
attach copies of their passport, or ID card (for those who
receive ID card of Ethiopian origin.) residence permit
i.e.
Personbevis (Sweden), Folkeregisteret (Denmark),
Folkeregister (Norway), Extract from the Population
Information System (Finland), Einstaklingar (Island)).
After authentication,
the documents would be channeled to the competent Authorities in
Ethiopia through the head office.

Application for Addis Ababa
Ethiopians
residing in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries back to
their home country. The project offers non-resident
Ethiopians land upon which to build a home in Addis Ababa.
In Addis Ababa,
Applicants can build (condominium) apartment.
Applicants
who want to build a home in Addis Ababa should have to form
Condominium Association/Cooperative. Not in individual
basis.

Members
of the housing cooperative/Association/ must be; Ethiopian by
birth, regardless of current citizenship.
►Foreign
Nationals of Ethiopian Origins must have a valid Ethiopian
Origin ID CARD.
►Ethiopian
citizens must have valid Ethiopian passport and a permanent
resident or working permit from current country of residence.
►The
Associations can have of 12 or more members (a multiple of 6).
In
Addis Ababa, applicants can get land as follows:

Members of the Association will be requested to deposit the
following sum of money in blocked account depending on the
size of the land requested:

4,000 birr is to be deposited, |

For 51-250 sqm of land |
8,000 birr is to be deposited |

Greater than 250 sqm of land |
15,000 birr is to be deposited |
Payment
There is no fee to be submitted to the Embassy in order to
form a housing association in Ethiopia.
The only payment that the beneficiaries are required to pay
is the service fee to have their Power of Attorney notarized
by the Embassy.
Regarding the Power of Attorney, each form may be processed
at a cost of 515 SEK.
In Regions
Any Ethiopian who has valid Ethiopian
passport and permanent resident permit or foreign national of
Ethiopian origin who has got Identity Card of Ethiopian origin
can apply to build a house in any regional state as per the
rules of the state.

In the Regional states, applicants can apply in two forms
A.
Regional Housing Cooperative or
B. Individually.
It is
to be noted that our Embassy provided support letter to
individuals wishing to build a house in Regional State.

further notice.
